In Loving Dedication to Dorral Goforth 💙 A Brother Worth Building For Meet Dorral Goforth — a man of quiet faith, deep kindness, and a laugh that belonged in movies. He was a mentor, a helper, a friend to many — especially to those walking the long road to recovery from addiction. For decades, Dorral gave. To struggling alcoholics in AA. To family. To his church. To anyone who needed a second chance — because he knew what it meant to get one himself. Dorral is now in hospice, in the late stages of Alzheimer’s. But even though much of his memory has faded, his legacy has never been clearer. Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center exists because of him, and for others like him.
We are proud to be one of only three facilities in the United States fully dedicated to utilizing Functional and Root Cause Medicine to address Alzheimer’s through the Bredesen Protocol (also called ReCODE™).
Unlike conventional care that only aims to slow the disease, our model is built to seek reversal — by investigating and treating the causes of cognitive decline, not just the symptoms.
Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center is on the path to becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation because for us, care isn’t about margins — it’s about meaning. We believe wellness should be accessible, personal, and purpose-driven. This place isn’t just a facility; it’s a living legacy dedicated to uplifting lives.
Let’s be transparent — this isn’t a miracle pill, and results vary. But the data is real:
In two recent clinical studies of the Bredesen Protocol:
One study reported that 75% of participants with Alzheimer’s showed measurable benefit, with the majority reversing cognitive decline.
Another study saw 84% of participants improve cognitive function, many of whom experienced reversal of their symptoms.
In both studies, a small percentage worsened (approximately 6–8%), and some (around 10–17%) experienced no change.
But the majority benefited, and the vast majority improved in some way — whether in memory, function, or daily life quality.
These are not drug trials. These changes came through lifestyle, detoxification, nutrition, and personalized protocols, guided by the ReCODE system.
Traditional medicine often sees Alzheimer’s as a single disease. But root cause medicine reveals over 36 known drivers of brain decline, including:
Toxic load (mold, heavy metals)
Inflammation
Infections
Nutrient and hormone deficiencies
Poor sleep, insulin resistance, and chronic stress
At Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center, every resident receives a fully customized wellness program based on lab testing, functional mind/body care, and physician oversight — all based on what’s called “The Bredesen 7” fundamentals (nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, brain training, detoxing & targeted supplements).
This isn’t one wing of a larger building or one program among many. Our entire facility is focused on the ReCODE approach. Every resident, every care plan, every meal, every therapy — working in sync to restore brain health and enhance life.
Steven Larsen, a U.S. Army veteran and lifelong student of holistic healing, founded Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center to honor Dorral and change how we care for memory loss.
Alongside his son Lars Larsen (also a U.S. Army vet and current university student), the Larsen family has turned this mission into a full-scale action plan — combining faith, family, and functional medicine to bring real change to Alzheimer’s care.
Healing inspired by love.
Medicine powered by root cause truth.
And a future built for real people.
The Larsen family is proud to have three generations of military service — and that spirit of resilience, tenacity, and sacrificial purpose is exactly what we’re bringing to this new fight:
against hopelessness, against outdated models, and for a new level of human care.
Michigan’s premier destination for holistic, dignified, and science-backed senior living.Â
